Foods that Enhance Vocal QualityPosted by George Iheanaetu

When it comes to singing, you may be wondering what food can you eat to make your singing voice better and improve your vocals? Yes, with some foodstuffs a bad singer can learn and improve singing well.

Here are some food items to help you sing like a pro.

Fresh fruits and vegetables: Fruit and vegetables help improve voicing based on their nutritional values gotten when consumed. It's rich in fibers and vitamins that help greatly. Fruits with high water content - watermelon, apples, and pineapples are good, for they help hydrate your throat. Foods like tomato-based soups and cream-based soups are not good for the singing voice, as they can cause acid reflux and increase phlegm production.

Food rich in protein: Protein is essential for singing. It gives the energy required to partake in long singing sessions. Fish and chicken are good sources of protein. They give you that fill and long-lasting energy needed to keep your vocal cords on a check. Avoid dairy products, it creates phlegm and makes it difficult to sing. Examples of foods to avoid are foods with cheese, milk or cream, also chocolate.

Room temperature water: Liquids are one of the best foods for the singing voice. Drinks like water and flat soda are highly recommended to stay hydrated after long hours of continuous singing. Best practice is to avoid fizzy liquids, this reduces the risk of burping while singing. Non-gassy liquids are recommended.

Honey and Peanut butter: Honey helps to soothe the throat. Mixing honey and warm water to create a soothing and calming drink. Should be taken before singing sessions or at night after the day work.

In general, you eat enough to satisfy you, but not to the extent of getting bloated or nauseous. Give yourself a balanced meal with protein to keep you going, and simple carbs to boost your energy. Avoid caffeine, chocolate, and alcohol, anything too oily or spicy.

Having said all that, it should be noted that tolerance for certain food differs, because of our physical differences. Some people are more sensitive than others. It's up to you to find out what foods are good for your singing and which aren't. Having a good singing instructor should also be considered, who would teach you how to manage your voice.
