Many people could have different opinions about food that actually make them happy, so there can't be a standard list. However, here is a list of meals that could brighten your day based on popular consumption in Lagos, Nigeria.

Jollof Rice : Jollof Rice or sometimes called as jellof rice (smiles), is a classic rice dish, cooked in a flavorful tomato-based broth. It's position as the top food in Lagos Nigeria has not been shaken with its several variations in name and ingredients, there is NO absolute right or wrong way of cooking this popular African rice recipe. Jollof rice and Chicken would surely give you that happy moment.

Bread and Beans : Bread and Beans locally known as Ewan Agoyin in Lagos and popularly called BB has won the hearts of many. The sweet taste of bread with a good portion of palm oiled beans has left so many mesmerized. It would be difficult or almost impossible to find Lagosians who hate this meal.

Noodles : I think the love for noodles starts from the fact that it is quick to prepare. Noodles are a type of food made from unleavened dough which is rolled flat and cut, stretched or extruded into long strips or strings. Noodles are cooked in different flavours ranging from chicken to seafood. One fun fact is that noodles is mostly served with eggs (boiled or fried). I don't know why but I believe it's because they are both speedster foods.

Suya dish : Suya is a spicy meat skewer which is a popular food item in West Africa. Suya is generally made with skewered beef, ram, or chicken. Innards such as kidney, liver and tripe are also used. It is said what a man can do a woman can do better but suya fails this saying. It's popularly prepared by men from the northern part of Nigeria. Suya is best enjoyed in the night with the cool breeze and a chilled drink. It is no doubt a major combo. When next you are out for an evening stroll, stop by a suya stand and try it out.

Peppersoup : Peppersoup is a soup from parts of West Africa that is prepared using various meats, chili peppers and nutmeg as primary ingredients. It is a spicy soup that has a light, watery texture. It is considered to be a delicacy by some people in Western Africa, and believed to contain medicinal qualities. It can be prepared at home or next time you are at a bar, request for a plate of pepper soup. Let me add that it goes well with a chilled drink.

Fried Rice : Just like it's sister Jollof rice, Fried rice is a dish of cooked rice that has been stir-fried in a wok or a frying pan and is usually mixed with other ingredients such as eggs, vegetables, seafood, or meat. It is often eaten by itself or as an accompaniment to another dish. To get full potential of fried rice order it with salads. Fried rice and salad are a major key.
